Hammered Copper

I have recently started a silversmithing level 1 course, after wanting to try it for years, and am regretful I didn't start sooner!

I am working in copper purely because I am a cheapskate, but I have grown very fond of the effects it can achieve, and how easy it is to manipulate. Here are the first two things I have made- very simple but I like them!

The Bruce Bogtrotter Cake

Each time I go and see my old art teachers, it is compulsory that I have to take them one of my cakes- I have grown quite popular!

Here was my latest delivery, using Mary Berry's ultimate cake book recipe, it's known as the 'Bruce Bogtrotter' at my house, as I'm sure you will see why.

For a bit of zingyness to cut through the extreme chocolate, I used lime marmalade in the middle.

Stencilled icing sugar seemed like a good idea, but didn't work too well, I could have tried harder, but to be honest, I was too excited to eat said cake to have to patience to do so.

A visit to Belfast

Apart from the obvious attractions to Ireland such as a great heavy drinking culture and many hot bearded men, I was shocked by just how beautiful actual Belfast was. Here are a few photos from my day (apologies for the poor quality, my phone was all I had to hand).

Was so lucky that it was a lovely day, I stayed to draw for a few minutes in this glass house among the art students. It always fascinates me how many different shapes leaves can be made into!!

The natural history section of the museum was very much above par! What a wonderful thing taxidermy can be!

Lately

This week, I have been doing a short project designing jewellery concepts in response to the song 'Meeting in the Aisle' by Radiohead . The outcome was a little strange, but I quite like it. Feel free to ask questions if you're interested. 

The start of a beginning

I have been meaning to start a blog for so long, so now, after years of spending far too much time on those belonging to others, I am finally going to have my own! Here is where I will post all of my everyday goings on, which hopefully won't be too boring for anyone that happens to read them (if anyone at all)!
